JUBAIL – Prince Saud Bin Abdullah Bin Thunayyan, president of the Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu, signed Monday three contracts worth a total of SR966.63 million for implementing power projects in Ras Al-Khair Industrial City and carrying out design works for power and communication systems in the second industrial city in Jubail (Jubail 2).
Speaking to reporters after the signing ceremony held at his office here, Prince Saud said more projects will be awarded to the private sector in Ras Al-Khair in the near future. “So far, more than SR5 billion in investments has been pumped into this industrial city to boost its basic industries, including aluminum and minerals,” he said.
Two contracts were signed with Saudi Services for Electro-Mechanical Works Company and Al-Babtain Contracting Company for setting up of two 1,500 megawatts electricity power plants in Ras Al-Khair. The plants will then be linked to the power grid of Saudi Electricity Company. The contracts, which also include construction of buildings and amenities for the plants, will be implemented within 38 months.
The third contract was awarded to Ali Kodair Al Harbi & Ahmed Radi Consultancy Engineering Company, which will implement the project in conjunction with Engineering International Ltd. Co.
The contract is for undertaking works of planning, designing and engineering for high tension electricity power plants, transmission lines, underground cable works, and electricity distribution networks, as well as for telecommunications and wireless systems for Jubail 2 and the new residential zones in the city.
The contract also includes designing and engineering works for electricity plants and communications facilities that are required during the expansion of King Fahd Industrial Port and Jubail commercial port. Period of the contract is five years.
