JEDDAH – The contract to construct the fourth reverse osmosis (RO) plant in Jubail Industrial City Area was signed under the patronage of Prince Saud bin Abdullah bin Thunayan Al-Saud, Chairman of the Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu and Chairman of Marafiq (Power and Water Utility Company for Jubail and Yanbu). The contract was signed recently at the Royal Commission headquarters in Riyadh. Thamer Bin Saud Al-Sharhan, CEO and President of Marafiq, signed the contract with the Saudi Binladen Group in consortium with the Spanish Company, Acciona Agua, represented by Qasim Sheikh, CEO of PCMC (Petroleum, Chemicals and Mining Company Limited), a subsidiary of the Saudi Binladin Group. The RO plant will have a production capacity of 100,000 cubic meters of desalinated water per day. Project implementation will start a month after signing of the contract, and the plant is expected to start production in the third quarter of 2014. “The establishment of the fourth RO desalination plant in Jubail Industrial City will cater to the growing demand for water in the city,” said Thamer Al-Sharhan. He added that the project would provide many job opportunities for young qualified Saudis, as constantly emphasized by Prince Saud in his quest to implement the King's directives on empowering the Saudi community to propel the wheels of the economy through the contributions of all sectors working in the industrial cities and through the employment of qualified young Saudis. – SG
