Okaz/Saudi Gazette JEDDAH — More than 11,000 marriage contracts were conducted in September with an increase of about seven percent over their number the same month the previous year, according to the Justice Ministry. The ministry said the marriage contracts between Saudi couples represented about 89 percent while their average number ranged between 345 and 819. It said the divorce deeds issued at the time were 5,192 of which about 48 percent were in Riyadh and Makkah. The ministry said the average divorce cases in a month ranged between 195 and 315 all over the Kingdom. It said during the previous 12 months, the minimal divorce cases were 2,430 while the maximum were 5,110. According to a number of experts and specialists, there were six main causes of divorce including the husband not performing his religious duties toward his wife, quick response to anger, wives neglecting their marital duties, extensive use of social media tools which inculcate doubts and suspicions in the heart of one of the couples, choosing the wife according to beauty and looks without consideration for the ethics and religion and ignorance of the gradual steps for divorce consisting of patience and arbitration by other family members.
