JEDDAH — Five Saudi female engineers, appointed recently by the Jeddah Municipality, swung into action to accomplish their mission of beautifying the Bride of the Red Sea with their meticulous plan and finishing touches with all minute details.
In the gardens of Prince Majed Park in north Jeddah, Okaz/Saudi Gazette saw the engineers, wearing their traditional abaya and a work cap, embarking on their mission of transforming ideas from design maps into reality so as to improve the quality of life of the visitors of the park.
They abandoned their stay behind the walls of the office, and rejected all the details of routine work, showing their commitment to the values and spirit of engineering work that necessitates going out to field.
Speaking to Okaz/Saudi Gazette, Samaher Bakhsh admits that their work as engineers is not without challenges, but she is fully confident that they can convert these challenges into golden opportunities for refurbishing and beautifying the city and that is in cooperation with the supervision team from the Mayoralty administration.
On her part, Yara Al-Qurashi confirmed that their ambition, as engineers working in Jeddah mayoralty, is moving towards improving the quality of life and achieving sustainability of projects with doing finishing touches to the engineering works in a way adding further beauty to the Bride of the Red Sea.
According to Mariam Attar, their assigned works include the designing of parks, footpaths and other public places as well as the design of branch municipal buildings, renovation of waterfronts, and supervision of projects as part of the team of engineers of the General Directorate of Public Utilities and Waterfronts.
Ghadeer Hariri spoke about the most prominent engineering aspects that are taken into account when designing the public utilities.
"When starting the design work of gardens, we tend to cater to the needs of all segments of the society, taking into account of the all out access through pedestrian paths apart from setting aside investment sites, make available of toilets in the gardens and the design of children's toys in an area away from car tracks."
Their appointment in the General Administration of Parks and Public Utilities, is part of the mayoralty's efforts to implement the Kingdom's Vision 2030 that aimed at expanding opportunities for the empowerment of women in various employment sectors.
