Renovation and maintenance work at Jeddah Corniche is nearing completion, Mayor Adil Al-Faqeeh has said. The project cost is SR3 million, he added. Construction of a parking lot that can accommodate over 500 vehicles between Sanabil Mosque and Al-Shirah Recreation Park is in progress, the mayor told Saudi Gazette. The old footpath close to the Fatimah Al-Zahara Mosque's northern side and Sanabil Mosque's southern side is being replaced with colored tiles in an area of 30,000 square meters. New asphalt is being laid on the road running between the two mosques covering an area of 60,000 square meters. Sitting areas with concrete seats and hut-like sunshades are also under construction. Moreover a concrete wall for the protection of the 800-meter-long footpath is being built from Tauhid roundabout to Nauras roundabout, he added. The mayoralty, Faqih said, undertakes all measures to provide the best facilities to visitors. It has provided safe places for bathing at the spot known as Golden Sands (Rimal Az-Zahbi) on the north of the beach, he said. The middle part of the Corniche will also be developed under the project. The floodwater canal project includes the construction of a number of gardens, recreational centers, stalls, restaurants, aquariums, a flower garden, a mist garden and a desert garden. “The strategic plan aims at organizing future development of the city, covering urban areas, modes of using land, local economy, environment, social services, culture and heritage, tourism, transportation, infrastructure, seafront tourism management and undeveloped areas,” he said.
