The Jungfrau Region, located in the Bernese Oberland in Switzerland, is named after the famous mountain Jungfrau. Lots of hiking trails start at Pfingstegg and you can hike to both Grindelwald glaciers and also into the UNESCO World Heritage are of Jungfrau Aletsch. The glacier gorge is open in summer with man made trails leading from Hotel Gletscherschlucht above the thundering snow melt waters and deep into the gorge where imposing cliff walls rise up more than 100m. A little crystal museum with minerals from the region can also be found at the entrance of the gorge.TheKleine Scheidegg lies directly below the Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau mountains, offering fantastic views of the renowned north face of the Eiger. Countless panoramic hikes start from here as does the famous Jungfrau Railway to the Jungfraujoch Top of Europe. The ride up to the highest railway station in Europe is the highlight of every holiday in Switzerland. Cog railways leave from Grindelwald or Lauterbrunnen to the Kleine Scheidegg. From the Kleine Scheidegg to the Jungfraujoch you travel through tunnels in the Eiger and Monch mountains with two stops along the way which offer fantastic views of the north face of the Eiger, Grindelwald and Eismeer. — SG
