Okaz/Saudi Gazette ABHA — A baby girl's finger, which was amputated in Uhud Rufaidah hospital in Asir region due to a medical mistake, was found in a garbage bin, her father Abdul Rahman Khamisi has said. He said a nurse told him that she found the amputated finger in a garbage bin and that an official in the hospital asked her to keep it. "This is a completely irresponsible behavior," the father said. He said he took his baby girl to the hospital for routine vaccination but the doctors put her under anesthesia claiming that she had jaundice. "I never expected the medical mistakes to reach this level," he said asking the hospital to do justice to his baby girl. The department of health affairs in Asir has constituted a committee to investigate the case, keep the baby's medical file and prevent all those involved in the error from traveling. A number of residents in Asir asked the department to reveal the results of the investigations and not just to tell them that an investigation committee has been formed to probe the case. They said dealing with such cases with transparency would preserve their confidence in the hospitals and the health centers in the region.
