All maternity ward medical staff at King Abdullah Hospital in Bisha have been barred from traveling while Health Affairs investigates claims that negligence led to the death of a newborn child at the facility. Director of Health Affairs in Asir Abdullah Al-Wadi has enforced the ban after the bereaved father of the baby girl noticed that her body “showed marks”. Al-Wadi said that Bisha Health Affairs has been asked for medical reports on the condition of the mother from the time of her admission until her discharge and on the causes of the child's death. King Abdullah Hospital has also been asked for the names of medical staff who handled the case. According to statistics most medical errors take place during the process of birth, followed by errors during surgical operations, mistakes relating to internal medicine and those involving children. Authorities say that 80 percent of mistakes can be blamed on the health system with human error accounting for the remaining 20 percent.
