RIYADH — Last Friday, Pakistan Doctors Group Riyadh (PDGR) held their all day Annual Family Picnic at a beautiful Isteraha near Dirab, just south of Riyadh city. This highlight of the social calendar saw a mass gathering of hundreds of Pakistani healthcare professionals and their families enjoy some downtime before the heat of summer sets in. The day began with a traditional breakfast of chana, halwa and puri, followed by various planned activities and games for all. Children especially, took part in a Qur'an recitation competition, sang national songs, had their faces painted, enjoyed popcorn, candy floss and cone ice creams, while regularly sliding down the bouncy castles. Several local businesses set up stalls with promotional offers of goods and services. Others, including prominent personalities, donated prizes and gifts, such as Umrah trips. Following Juma'a prayer on site, members congregated for a general body meeting. Vice President Dr. Farooq Pasha, gave a brief about PDGR welfare, academic and social activities over the past year, particularly useful for the new attendees. Questions and comments from the floor were well received. Red Onion Restaurant laid on a delicious buffet lunch that was much appreciated by everyone present, before all took up seats for the afternoon stage event. Children were thoroughly enthralled by a specialist entertainer, followed by a professional singer for the adults. The occasion was attended by Pakistan Ambassador Raja Ali Ejaz and his wife Ayesha Ali. They both lauded PDGR members for their extensive contributions to Saudi healthcare, spanning several decades. Founding Chairman Dr. Riaz Khawaja, awarded Sitara-e-Imtiaz for his service to the community, was also present. Social Secretary Dr. Badar Jamil and President Dr. Asad Roomi concluded the much-awaited grand raffle, and paid rich tributes to the whole PDGR executive body for organizing another successful mega event.
