RIYADH — The Pakistan Doctors' Group Riyadh, supported by the Welfare Section of the Pakistan Embassy, held another hugely successful free medical camp on Friday. Around 850 expatriates attended the walk-in event between 2 p.m. and 7p.m., where they initially benefitted from advice on basic hand washing techniques, health education lectures in Urdu, and screening for diabetes and hypertension. Following medical triage by PDGR physicians, patients underwent further assessments by consultants from many different specialties. Several procedures like ECGs, ultrasound scans, echocardiography, ophthalmic slit-lamp examinations, refraction tests, and blood tests, were performed on-site. Off-site arrangements were made for X-rays, CT scans and MRIs. Hundreds of eligible patients also benefitted from freely prescribed and dispensed medications. Pakistan Ambassador Raja Ali Ejaz and his wife, Ayesha Ali, toured all the different activity areas, while being briefed by PDGR executive body members. They took the opportunity to personally thank the many and varied volunteers, while at the same time taking inquiries from the numerous grateful beneficiaries. Several observers noted how well the mega event had been organized, with over 100 generalist and specialist clinicians being supported by lay Pakistanis from all walks of life, in both behind the scenes preparations and on the day. Notable volunteers were from Pakistan Haj Volunteers Group, PHVG, Pakistan, International Schools, Nasiriyah and English Sections, alumni of Pakistan's prestigious National University of Sciences and Technology, NUST, and even the spouses and children of PDGR members. Welfare Secretary Dr. Asif Alam and President Dr. Asad Ullah Roomi, concluded the day by especially thanking the whole PDGR executive body, for their admirable dedication to serve their fellow nationals in the cause of humanity.
