Jeff Arellano and Aries Ramirez won the Global Cup 2019 Golf Tournament last Friday at Dirab Golf & Country Club near Riyadh. Arellano and Ramirez dominated the two-man Texas Scramble format competition, shooting an unassailable round of 10-under 62 from a gross score of 74 (37-37) and handicap of 12. Coming in first runner-up behind the champion pair were Mar Vera Cruz and Jose Ramos, who won on countback from Luke Lacaden and Doy Vicera after the sides returned matching net scores of 67. Vera Cruz and Ramos had 38 and Lacaden-Vicera 39 when the back nine scores were compared to break the tie. They played off respective handicaps of 9 and 11. The third runner-up position went to Resty Sarmiento Sibug who teamed with rookie Carlos Bihag in scoring 68 (76 37-39 8). The skill prize for straight drive went to Boiet Carigma, longest putt to Lacaden, nearest to the pin Arellano (No. 11) and Allan Malawanda (No. 4). Jun Paner and Charlstom Moreno claimed the prize for Most Exercised Golfer. The tournament coincided with the induction of FGA (Filipino Golf Association) officials for 2019. It was sponsored by the Global Partylist, which is vying in the May 13 mid-term elections in the Philippines. Sibug, an engineer by profession and a tireless community leader in Riyadh, is Global's No. 5 nominee with another engineer Ermie Lagman Garon at No. 1. Al-Haram Center, Capture Advertising, Baak Restaurant and Dirab Golf & Country Club also supported the tournament. William Calina, POLO-OWWA Central Region senior administrative staff, inducted the officials led by the association president Manny Barroga, on behalf of Labor Attache Nasser S. Mustafa.
