SHARJAH – The Emirate of Sharjah is set to play host to the first Arab woman to compete on the international motorsport circuit, at the March 14-16 Middle East Motor Tuning Show at Expo Center Sharjah. Noor Daoud, a 23-year-old Palestinian who is also part of an all-female motor racing team Speed Sisters, will give racing fans a treat with her display of the extraordinary fishtailing ballet of burning rubber called drifting. “Professional drift racing is one of the most challenging disciplines in motorsport and to see a girl in the thick of petrol fumes, burning rubber and ultimate adrenaline rush will be quite an incredible sight. For motorsport enthusiasts, the Middle East Motor Tuning will be the best opportunity to see Noor in action and share their passion for fast cars and screeching tires,” said Saif Mohammed Al-Midfa, Director General, Expo Centre Sharjah. The first all-female racing team in the Middle East, Speed Sisters, was formed by Noor, who was born in Texas and is a former member of Olympic swimming team. Daoud has also represented Palestine on its national soccer team and races cars in Formula 3 besides taking part in dirt bike races. Noor, who became the first Arab girl to take part in the Drift UAE race in January, will also be featured in a documentary about Speed Sisters being made by Canadian filmmaker Amber Fares. The documentary will chart their incredible journey from the streets of the West Bank. UAE Red Bull Car Park Drift 2013 winner Jihad Hassan will also perform during the show in Sharjah. This will be the 20-year-old Dubai student's first performance after winning the title and before he takes part in the regional finals, eyeing the title of the ‘Red Bull Car Park Drift King'. Current UAE Drift King Ahmed Al-Ameri, who won the Drift UAE Championship last year, will also be present at the show and take part in the autograph session. “The thrill and excitement one experiences while drifting is enough to get one addicted to the sport. What is more exciting is that even the spectators experience the adrenaline as they feel that they are also drifting along with the vehicle that's burning the rubber,” said Roman Gavrilin, Project Manager, Expo Centre Sharjah. A series of events and contests organized during MEMTS is aimed at adding excitement to the show and at the same time promoting and spreading awareness about practicing racing, drifting and other activities in a safe and secure way. – SG
