SAKHIR, Bahrain — For the first time ever, the GCC will hold a regional drag racing championship which will debut on Jan. 11, 2013. This exciting development for regional motorsport was announced at a Press conference at Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) recently. The team behind this initiative signed a five-year agreement for the same in the presence of: BIC Operations Director Fayez Ramzy Fayez, Dirab Motorsport Park CEO Sakher Bin Abdulla Al-Sudairy, Saudi Arabian Motor Federation General Secretary Anwar Hillmi, Yas Marina Circuit Director Saud Al-Khaydi, Peacock International Chairman and CEO Fawzi Soliman, and Peacock International Managing Partner Alain Rizk. The venues in Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and the UAE, offer state-of-the-art drag racing facilities. The full schedule will be announced in the coming weeks but the championship will start in Bahrain. There will be two rounds in the UAE and the final round will take place in Saudi Arabia. The championship is open to all GCC drivers with participation guaranteed from Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the UAE, Qatar and Kuwait. Run to the exacting standard associated with world-class motorsport, this inaugural championship will establish benchmarks for all future drag racing events in the region. Each venue can accommodate thousands of spectators, and fans coming for the show will be able to see the highest standard of drag racing. In addition, the fans will get to enjoy the open paddock, see the drivers and cars at close quarters and enjoy the thrilling vending areas. For those wishing to get closer to the action, there will be high speed passenger rides available too. For the younger fans there will be junior dragster action introduced later in the season.
