RIYADH — The Alwaleed Bin Talal Foundation, chaired by Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal, launched its women empowerment initiative “Hama” during a ceremony that was held at the Four Seasons Hotel in Riyadh and attended by women leaders. The ceremony started with a welcome speech by Princess Ameerah Al-Taweel, vice chairwoman and secretary-general of the foundation, and was followed by a presentation of the initiative's goals and achievements by Nora Al-Malki, executive manager of development projects at the foundation. Dr. Suhaila Zain Al-Abideen, keynote speaker at the event, discussed women's empowerment in Islam. The Alwaleed Foundation also honored its partners during the event. Hama aims to support women's empowerment issues, emphasize their leadership within society, empower women, develop their productivity and enhance their capacity in functional and technical fields. During the ceremony, the Alwaleed Foundation invited the audience to join in the Saudi Women Leaders Network (Eradah), which seeks to provide a network facilitating the exchange of experience between leaders and to support aspiring young leaders' efforts to create a positive impact in society. The initiative, which is being implemented by Al-Malki, aims to support the greatest number of institutions that are active in raising awareness of women's legal rights. The initiative supports vocational training programs for aspiring career women across various fields, as well as helping women with limited incomes learn how to design artifacts. In addition to honoring women leaders and highlighting their success stories, the initiative also aims to develop role models for young people. The initiative tries to support women with postgraduate degrees, others with no university education, and women with no primary education.
