JEDDAH — Old Students narrowly beat Universal by 2 runs and the Munch Bakery continued its successful stint, defeating Peeran XI by 87 runs in the 2nd week matches of the Ace Travel afternoon League, which is sponsored by the Ace Travel and organized by the Jeddah Cricket Association (JCA) here recently. Old Students batted first and put on a massive score of 181-5, mainly through Abdul Rahman, who scored a rapid 56 off 34 balls (6x4, 2x6), and Shahid, who played a sedate innings of 23 off 29 balls (2x4). Atif chipped in with a quick 24 off 12 balls (3x4) and Junaid 18 (3x4). Bilal took 3-23 and Abdul Ghani 1-27. In reply, Universal fought back well mainly due to the efforts of Haroon 63 (10X4, 1X6), Umar (22), Tauseef (20 n.o.) and a bonus of 25 extras. But even that was not enough as it reached perilously close to the target to be all out for 179, narrowly losing by 2 runs. Nazim and Abdul Rahman took 2 wickets each for 32 and 33, respectively, while Ustad, Zeeshan and Asif took one wicket each. Munch Bakery outclassed Peeran XI by a huge margin of 87 runs. Munch Bakery, batting first, put up a reasonable total of 153. Zainul Salikeen (22), Zainul Huda (31) and Mustafa (28) scored well. Asim (3-25), Umar (2-17) were the pick of the bowlers, while Waleed and Zaheer got one wicket each for 20 and 15 runs, respectively. In reply, Peeran XI was bundled out for a paltry 63 as Umar (2-19), Mustafa (2-16), Waleed (1-11) and Mubeen (1 for 2) made batting difficult with only Fahad (19) and Khalid (14) managing to reach double figures.
