JEDDAH — More than 4,000 students from various private and government schools in Jazan have joined the biggest safe driving awareness campaign targeting schoolchildren. The campaign themed “Safe Driving”, was launched by Taajeer in cooperation with the Directorate of Education and the Traffic Department in Jazan. The initiative aims to boost awareness among motorists on public roads and to enhance social responsibility sentiments, especially among youth who cause nearly 40 percent of road accidents annually. The campaign comes in its fourth year after it proved its success in Jeddah, Riyadh and Dammam as it was designed to boost awareness among youth about safe driving, avoiding accidents, the negative side of speeding and the impact of road accidents on society, as well as the catastrophic results represented by loss of lives and property annually. Omar Mohammed Hindi, CEO of Taajeer, said as the government assumes a great role in this regard, Saudi society in general must understand and play its role so as to create common ground in terms of discipline and cooperation, including the positive attitude to such awareness campaigns. “We at Taajeer in collaboration with the Department of Education and Jazan traffic police are launching this campaign targeting students,” Hindi added. The event took place at King Faisal Sports Complex 3 hours daily for 10 days with participation of 4,000 students from 80 schools. Hindi pointed out that road accidents in the Kingdom are mostly due to violation of traffic regulations. “For this reason, such a campaign is of great importance; we can join hands to minimize road accidents and increase awareness of the importance of following traffic rules,” he said. He urged media to be a partner in conveying the message to both individuals and families. “Road accidents have become the second major cause of death in the Kingdom, and most of the victims were in their prime youth,” he added. In final ceremony day, Taajeer honored officials of the Traffic Department and Directorate of Education in Jazan for their cooperation in making the campaign a success. The ceremony was attended by the Director of Traffic Brig. Ayedh Dakheel Allah and Director of Education Hamdan Al-Harthy.
