Safe driving techniques are essential for the smooth flow of traffic on congested roads and it is not only beneficial for drivers but for others too, Olfat Qabani, a member of the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI) said on Wednesday. Qabani urged Saudi youth to benefit from the Gulf Traffic Week to educate themselves on safe driving techniques. Worried over the high percentage of traffic accidents across the Kingdom in recent times, the social responsibility center of the JCCI has arranged a traffic awareness campaign for high school students. The campaign is in cooperation with Safra Academy. The high number of deaths in traffic accidents is the main reason behind this campaign,” said Qabani. Prince Mish'al Bin Majed, Governor of Jeddah, graced the occasion of the signing of the contract between Safra Academy and the Ministry of Education. “The contract is aimed at teaching students about the safe ways to drive and such important programs need support from the private sector too,” said Qabani. Statistics compiled by car-accidents.com show that in the Kingdom, on average 3,500 people die and 28,000 injured in over 153,000 traffic accidents each year. Official sources attribute the causes of these crashes to aggressive driving, speeding, failure to obey traffic signals, and poor car maintenance, including tires and brakes.
