DAMMAM: University students are now the focus of a safe driving campaign by the Eastern Province Traffic Police in cooperation with Saudi Aramco and universities in the Eastern Province. The campaign to educate students about safe driving took police traffic enforcers and Saudi Aramco driving instructors last week to Prince Mohammad Bin Fahd University (PMU) where students were lectured on defensive driving, road courtesy, and safe driving on campus. Statistics show that many victims of traffic accidents are young people, mostly students. Dr. Issa H. Ansari, PMU rector, received and welcomed the delegation of safe driving enforcers from the traffic police and Saudi Aramco. He said that developing a culture of safe driving among students is an important responsibility of the academic community. “Safe driving should be a way of life, an education for all,” he said. The effort to educate students on driving safety is part of the on-going campaign launched recently by Prince Jalawi Bin Abdul Aziz Bin Musaad Al-Saud, Deputy Emir of the Eastern Province, during the observance of the GCC Traffic Week. Part of the campaign is to introduce high school students to the skills of defensive driving before they are issued with driving licenses. During the campaign, a Saudi Aramco driving simulation truck will visit school and university campuses in the Eastern Province to teach students to how to drive defensively.
