Hassan Cheruppa Saudi Gazette JEDDAH — Muhammad Alungal, Chairman and Managing Director of Al Abeer Medical Group, has won the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Entrepreneur Award for the year 2013 in recognition of his excellent contributions to the healthcare sector in the Gulf states and India. Speaking to Saudi Gazette, Alungal thanked Allah Almighty for enabling him to serve the community in the healthcare field. “This recognition increases my responsibility toward serving the community in this noble field. The credit also goes to my devoted and dedicated staff members who are instrumental in taking Al Abeer Group to new heights of medical care with a unique human touch,” he said. Alungal will receive the award at a function to be held at the International Islamic University of Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur on February 26. Malaysia's Deputy Health Minister Rosnah binti Abdul Rashid Shirlin will present the award. The OIC Today Magazine has instituted the award in collaboration with the Joint Council of Malaysian Prime Minister's Department of National Unity and Integration, and the International Islamic University of Malaysia. The Award Committee lauded the pioneering role being played by Alungal in making available of the best possible medical care at affordable rates for both Saudis and foreigners in the Kingdom. While announcing the award, OIC Today Editor-In-Chief Datu Muhammad Raja Abdullah said: “Alungal is instrumental in making Al Abeer Group one of the most successful medical ventures in the Gulf states and India within a short span of time. His dedication and farsightedness are mainly behind this success,” he said. There are 5000 medical and paramedical staffers working with the group, founded in 1999. Alungal launched a multi-billion rupee EduCity project, based in Malappuram.
