RIYADH – Saudi Arabia has won accolades from the international community for its pioneering role and bold initiatives aimed at rooting out terror at the local and global levels. In a communique issued at the end of a two-day international conference on security, which concluded here Sunday evening, the participants lauded the leadership role of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah in strengthening the efforts of United Nations in its fight against terrorism. The conference, with the theme of “Encouraging partners to contribute to building capabilities in fighting terror,” was jointly hosted by the Kingdom and the UN Center for Counter-Terrorism (UNCCT). The conference denounced all forms of terrorism that pose a grave threat to the security and development of all countries and peoples across the world. “There should be unified global efforts to ensure trial of any individuals involved either in financing or plotting or carrying out any terror acts. This is inevitable to foil plans of terrorists as well as to thwart their destructive designs,” said the communique, which was read out by Eric Plumbly, representative of UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon. It reiterated the preparedness of UN member states to support collective global efforts in fighting terrorism. Plumbly supported the suggestions made by the participants to make the conference an annual event. The conference decided to set up a website for interaction and exchange of information supportive to enhanced cooperation among Counter-Terrorism Centers across the world. – SG/SPA
