Ronaldo Z. Concha Saudi Gazette JEDDAH — A group of Filipino workers in Jeddah donated three sets of air-conditioning equipment to the Philippine Consulate last weekend. Jessie Tamera, president of the community group Circulo Illongo in Saudi Arabia (CISA), said donations came from funds raised during the 2012 WOW Pinoy bowling exhibition. The air-conditioning sets were received by Consul General Uriel Norman Garibay and Consul Leo Tito Ausan Jr. Garibay said the window type air-conditioners would be placed in a vacant room of the consulate that will be used as a temporary shelter for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who may have contagious infections. He said: “We encountered some cases of ailing OFWs who must be brought to the hospital for treatment and they must not stay with other distressed but healthy workers in the Filipino Workers Resource Center (FWRC) to avoid possible spread of infections.” Garibay thanked the organizers for their donation. WOW Pinoy is a bowling event held annually organized by different Filipino organizations to promote unity in the Filipino community in the Western Region and also to help distressed OFWs staying at the FWRC. WOW Pinoy was first organized almost a decade ago by former OFW and media professional Francis Salu. The one-day event last year was hosted by the Circulo Illongo in Saudi Arabia.
