JEDDAH – A four-week training seminar for leaders of different Filipino communities in Jeddah recently started. As part of KASAPI Congress (Kongreso ng Kapulungan ng Samahang Pilipino) program to train community leaders to become effective counselors and mediators, the group's Chairman Wennie Camba said the seminar was organized in cooperation with the Philippine Consulate General. Camba said the program is headed by Gina Casino chairwoman of KASAPI's women's affairs. The seminar will be divided into four sessions and officials from the Philippine Consulate will conduct them. During the first session conducted last weekend, Omega Garibay, wife of Consul General Uriel Norman Garibay, taught attendees the basic procedures for counseling distressed Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs). The group's chairman of community service, Mar Par, said that the next two sessions will deal with issues concerning OFWs and their solutions. Maria Victoria Demenggoy, Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), and Jim Dinglana, Assistant to National Section Head Vice Consul will conduct the seminar. Par said the final session will focus on consular activities and will be conducted by Vice Consul RJ Sumague who will discuss information pertaining to consular activities such as the procedures in passport processing, visas and other legal related matters. All seminars will be held at the Philippine Consulate's Community Hall.
