Yahya Al-Fifi Okaz/Saudi Gazette ABHA — A girl who was allegedly assaulted and battered by her mother is refusing to return home without protection. The woman was admitted to Khamis Mushait General Hospital after she was found suffering from physical injuries. She claimed that after the death of her father, her mother used to beat her up with cables and metal rods. The mother also allegedly deprived her of food and an opportunity to go to an education institution. The girl is now seeking intervention of the concerned authorities. The spokesman of Asir Health Affairs Directorate said that the patient is in stable condition and may leave the hospital at her will. Dr. Hadi Al-Yami, head of Asir Human Rights Commission, said a team will visit the girl in the hospital to investigate her case. She will be sent to a housing shelter belonging to the Ministry of Social Affairs upon her release.
