ABHA — The National Society for Human Rights (NSHR) has commissioned a delegation of women to visit a child allegedly abused by his mother in Jazan. Reports claimed the mother poured scalding water on his body and constantly hit him, leaving bruises all over his body. He was taken to hospital unconscious and the doctors had to amputate one of his toes. Supervisor of the NSHR's Asir branch Dr. Hadi Al-Yami said the delegation's visit is to inspect the child's health and the services being offered to him. The delegation will also coordinate with local authorities to provide the necessary protection for the child. The family will also be investigated, as well as the reasons for the abuse. Al-Yami said a woman who had been abused by her husband for the last six years has refused to leave the social protection home where she had been staying. She had burns on parts of her body, was physically abused, and deprived of food and water. She escaped from the house, only for her father to return her to her husband. She finally contacted police for help. But her husband has fled, taking their daughter with him. Now the woman is seeking the custody of her daughter. Police are searching for the father. The NSHR has appointed a lawyer for the woman to help her win custody of her daughter. — SG
