Mohammad Al-Enezi Okaz/Saudi Gazette DAMMAM — Current regulations do not allow vendors of spoiled or rotten foods to be taken to court and administered justice. Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs spokesman Hamad Al-Omar said current regulations do not include such a provision. At present, the ministry can only issue warnings, fines or closure of the establishment. Consumers claim that the lack of such provision in our judiciary is only encouraging such practices and that the law has to be revised to include court judgments against offending vendors. In a related development, the Dammam municipality closed down 11 stalls in the central fish market. The municipality head, Mazen Bakhraji, said 700 kg of spoiled fish and shrimp unfit for human consumption was seized and destroyed.
