RIYADH — Women invitees to a wedding east of Riyadh were surprised to see the bridegroom's mother receiving them on arrival at the wedding palace with a machine gun in her hands. When the wedding was over and the newly married couple came out of the celebrations hall, the mother fired 20 bullets from her machine gun in the air to express happiness over the marriage of her eldest son. A number of women and children suffered minor injuries from falling bullet casings. The mother justified her action by saying that every mother and father should be committed to the instructions of the Prophet (peace be upon him), who ordered Muslims to teach their children shooting, horse riding and swimming.
