RIYADH – Consumer awareness is the best way to fight increase in prices. And so the Saudi Consumer Protection Association has decided to launch a TV channel and a YouTube platform to disseminate information about price manipulation by some traders. Authorities have failed to put an end to businesses which unreasonably raise prices, so the CPA decided to launch this channel, said Director of the Consumer Protection Association Dr. Nasser Al-Tuwaim. “It's a tool which should help consumers exchange information about restaurants, cafeterias, etc. which charge exorbitant prices for their services,” Dr. Al-Tuwaim said. It is very important that consumers work together to combat unreasonably high prices, which are often set by greedy businesses, he added. Although Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah has directed that a 50 percent subsidy should be given for the production of fodder to end the increase in the price of staple food products, some businesses still engage in price manipulation, he said. Markets will be monitored.
