The Consumer Protection Association (CPA) has opened the first women's branch in the capital. Inaugurated last week, the women-managed branch will strive to protect the rights of consumers. Involvement of women in making decisions, drawing up strategies, and taking action will help the CPA carry out its mission, which is safeguarding and defending the rights of consumers against fraud, adulteration, falsification and tampering with commodities and services. Apart from this, it protects consumers against exorbitant prices and misleading advertisements in print and electronic media. “The participation of women is essential to ensure the best interests of the consumer, especially when it comes to products and services targeting women, children, and families. The women's branch of the CPA has enlisted the help of professional, experienced, and highly capable Saudi women. The first step in the new administration is to finalize the internal structure of the women's branch and delegate various jobs and duties. The women's branch will bear the responsibility of educating the public on issues pertaining to the younger generation of our community,” said Dr. Nasser Al-Tuwaim, president of the CPA. Maha Bint Sulaiman Al-Naheet, president of the women's administration of the CPA, has sought help from women who are willing to take part in protecting and educating consumers in the Kingdom. Qualified women can join the CPA either as employees or volunteers. Al-Naheet also encouraged women to fill out the online registration form at www.cpa.org.sa so that the CPA can get in touch with them. She also said that the women's branch of the CPA is open to ideas and suggestions from the general public on how they can better serve consumers in the community. The Consumer Protection Agency is a non-government organization which is self-financing. It has more than 250 members who are experts in consumer protection and consumerism. They routinely send teams to visit supermarkets and malls to inspect products on display, the pricing, the expiry date of commodities, and the accuracy of the information and promotional messages related to the products. Several informational brochures written by the CPA have been distributed to improve consumers' awareness of their rights. __
