DAMMAM — An expatriate used his son as a guarantee to secure the sale of two kilograms of hashish, a local newspaper reported. A Saudi was buying the drugs from the man and paid him SR38,000. The citizen asked the expatriate to leave his son with him as a guarantee until he brought the hashish. The two offenders were captured red-handed by narcotics officers in Dammam and were referred to the Bureau of Investigation and Public Prosecution. They confessed to using hashish and were referred to the district court in Qatif, where they were convicted and each sentenced to five years in jail, 250 lashes and a fine of SR5,000. The Saudi was also banned from traveling for five years, while the expatriate will be deported after he finishes his sentence. — SG
