Fahd Al-Manaee Saudi Gazette MAKKAH — The Commission for Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice (Hai'a) has apprehended a Saudi driver for attempting to sexually assault a Saudi woman who regularly used his services for her chores. The Saudi was driving the woman to a destination outside the residential areas when he stopped the car in an isolated location and forced himself into the back seat to sexually assault her. He gave up and dropped her off at a shopping mall after she fiercely resisted his advances. The woman immediately went to a Hai'a center and reported the incident. The Hai'a asked the woman to contact the driver and set up an appointment with him. When he arrived at the agreed time and place, he was apprehended. A number of mobile phones were found in the man's possession, some containing threatening messages to women, and others including pornographic material. He was handed over to a police station for further action. Family affairs specialist Awadh Al-Jamei said women should make thorough investigations about drivers with whom they deal. Many victims of sexual assaults do not approach the authorities for fear of embarrassment in society.
