JAZAN – A huge explosion that occurred at Athwan Mountain, Jazan, during a demolition project, wreaked havoc as it sent rocks and boulders to nearby and remote villages. The blast was so huge that it knocked down a power line leaving scores of houses in the dark. Although his house is 150 meters away from the explosion site, one resident of a nearby village said some rocks fell directly into his yard, frightening his entire family. Another resident of the same village said big rocks ripped two water tanks on top of his house. He said he would file a complaint with pertinent authorities in order to get compensated for the damages. The contracting company's supervisor told Okaz/Saudi Gazette that a demolition expert oversaw the whole process and was present during the explosion. The director of Saudi Electricity Company's Jazan branch requested the company's technicians to restore electricity to the damaged houses as soon as possible. The company was trying to blow up part of the mountain in order to expand the road in the area.
