Prince Muhammad Bin Nasser, Emir of Jizan region, has set up committee to deal with the damage to houses and farms in the village of Kodmi and in the Moasam area – which were hit hard by recent flooding, said Ali Za'la, a Jizan Emirate supervisor. The committee has started visiting the affected areas to determine appropriate compensation for flood-hit Saudi families, a source told Saudi Gazette, Monday. During Eid, the border areas were hit by floodwater that came from the mountains in Yemen and passed through the Ibn Abdullah Valley; residents and officials said homes were destroyed and people were stranded. The Emir also ordered the immediate provision of suitable housing facilities and food to those affected by the floods. The Jizan Mayoralty said it built earth-filled dams to protect the villages from flooding. The under-construction international highway that connects Saudi Arabia and Yemen was one of the most affected areas, officials said. Residents said flood waters went through the new road canals and hit their villages and farms. “I couldn't sleep for two days after Eid because I lost everything I own, including my home, clothes and car,” said Ibrahim Harmali, a tribal chief in the Moasam area. Some charitable societies started providing shelters and food stuff after the flood, he added. Residents of Qais area, east of Jizan, said they were stuck in their homes for two days because roads were blocked by large boulders that came down from Qais Mountain. Hassan Al-Qofaily, Director of Civil Defense in Jizan region, said workers rescued 23 local residents stranded on Qais
