JAZAN — The family of a woman accused of setting her house on fire resulting in the death of a daughter and a son is asking for her acquittal. The fire occurred four months ago in Jazan. Three others were also injured. The police accused the woman of the arson, and arrested her. She has suffered several illnesses including a stroke and a heart attack that left her in intensive care since then. The prosecutor's accusation is based on a telephone conversation between the accused and her deceased daughter's husband in which it is claimed he expressed fear of the daughter. The prosecutors considered that statement as incriminating evidence. Forensics reports indicate that the two deaths were caused by smoke inhalation. Jazan governorate's deputy, Dr. Abdullah Al-Suwaeyd confirmed that investigations are still underway. He said that it is a criminal case and not a circumstantial one. Her family meanwhile has alleged that there is no solid evidence to back the accusation and she must be released.
