TAIF — A clip of an Asian academic performing a folk dance while lecturing on the English language did not go over well with Taif residents, Al-Watan newspaper reported. A student attending the lecture at Taif University posted the clip to YouTube. The clip has caused a stir and invited the resentment of Taif residents. The clip shows the lecturer asking something of the students who did not understand what he meant. He then said a word in Arabic. Two students joined him and showed him how to perform a folk dance. Taif residents charge that this as a sign of the lack of monitoring of classroom behavior. The university should utilize lecture time more appropriately, they said. They question the benefit of having some faculty members, especially expats. Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Talhi, public relations and media supervisor of Taif University, said that this was a routine part of the lecture. It employs modern ways of teaching by interaction, he added. — SG
