MAKKAH — The District Court in Makkah sentenced several members of the same family to a total of 10 months in prison and 200 lashes for abusing members of the Commission for Promotion Virtue and Prevention of Vice (Hai'a). In his verdict, the judge ordered the family members to sign an agreement to refrain from such behavior in the future. The family members verbally abused the Hai'a members and spat at them. The father has been jailed for 65 days and 45 lashes. The mother has been sentenced to 60 days in prison and 60 lashes, her oldest daughter received 30 days in prison and 30 lashes, while the youngest daughter has been sentenced to 150 days in prison and 120 lashes. The incident took place five months ago when the Hai'a members received a report about two girls in a mall. When they tried to talk to them the two girls insulted the members. The parents also verbally abused the Hai'a men.
