COLOMBO — Sri Lanka has named uncapped teenage off-spinner Tharindu Kaushal in its squad for the two-Test series against New Zealand starting at Galle on Nov. 17. Kaushal represented Sri Lanka at the Under-19 World Cup in Australia earlier this year and is a member of the Sri Lanka one-day squad currently playing New Zealand in a five-match series. Sri Lanka opener Tillakaratne Dilshan has, meanwhile, been ruled out of the last two ODIs against New Zealand with a sore back, team manager Charith Senanayake said Friday. Dinesh Chandimal is expected to take Dilshan's place in the team for the remaining one dayers on Saturday and Monday. A win will enable Sri Lanka to wrap up the series, and Jayawardene said his concern was not only a series win but also adjusting to the International Cricket Council's new field restriction rules which he has already criticized as heavily favoring the batsmen. Patel shows form Samit Patel produced a third successive knock of 50-plus for England, slamming 67 against Haryana on the second day Friday of a four-day practice game in Ahmedabad to boost his chances of playing in the four-Test series against India. Patel's knock helped England score 521 in its first innings with wicketkeeper Matt Prior also chipping in with a brisk 41. At stumps, Haryana was 172-4 in reply with opener Rahul Dewan batting on 77 and Sandeep Singh on 2. Patel, who scored 104 in the first practice game against India A and 60 in the second match against Mumbai A, struck 13 fours during his 105-ball knock Friday. — Agencies
