Published in The Saudi Gazette on 19 - 12 - 2010

NEW DELHI: Indian selectors named four wicketkeepers Saturday in a preliminary 30-man squad for next year's World Cup, to be hosted jointly by India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
Apart from captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Wriddhiman Saha, who are presently touring South Africa, Dinesh Karthik and Parthiv Patel are the other glovemen in the list.
Karthik has played several matches for India in the past few years, while Parthiv Patel made a comeback to one-day cricket after a gap of six years during a recent home series against New Zealand.
Mumbai middle-order batsman Ajinkya Rahane is the only uncapped player in the list, while leading Test batsman Rahul Dravid and all-rounder Irfan Pathan have failed to make the premilinary squad.
“I am confident this team will do well in the World Cup,” chief selector Krishnamachari Srikkanth said. “There are no big surprises, this is a ‘probables' team, and everyone selects himself.”
The preliminary squad will be reduced to 15 players by Jan. 19 - a month before the tournament gets underway.
Squad: Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Virender Sehwag, Sachin Tendulkar, Gautam Gambhir, Virat Kohli, Yuvraj Singh, Suresh Raina, Harbhajan Singh, Ravichandran Ashwin, Zaheer Khan, Ashish Nehra, Shantakumaran Sreesanth, Munaf Patel, Ishant Sharma, Praveen Kumar, Vinay Kumar, Murali Vijay, Rohit Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja, Ajinkya Rahane, Saurabh Tiwary, Yusuf Pathan, Parthiv Patel, Wriddhiman Saha, Dinesh Karthik, Shikhar Dhawan, Amit Mishra, Piyush Chawla, Cheteshwar Pujara, Pragyan Ojha.
England calls up Broad

Broad was ruled out of the current Ashes series against Australia after sustaining an abdominal injury during the second Test but England selectors are confident the paceman will be fit for the World Cup, which begins begins Feb. 19.
Jade Dernbach, Chris Woakes, Darren Stevens, Jimmy Adams and James Hildreth are the uncapped players called up and Test regular Steven Finn was selected Saturday despite not having played a limited-overs international.
