BRISBANE — Redah Abdulmohsen Al-Nozha, the Kingdom's chargé d'affaires in Australia, has said the Saudi Embassy in Canberra is following up the case of Saudi scholarship student who was found dead in mysterious circumstances in Queensland state, Australia, last month. The charred body of Sultan Alamri, 30, body was discovered by bushwalkers at Austinville near Gold Coast on Oct. 17. Al-Nozha said the embassy asked the Australian authorities to expedite the investigations and bring the perpetrators to justice. In a statement to Saudi Press Agency, Al-Nozha pointed out that he went to the city of Brisbane, the capital of Queensland state, accompanied by a delegation from the embassy and the cultural attaché office to follow up the investigations conducted by the Australian authorities from all aspects. The delegation members visited the scene of the crime and were briefed on the progress of investigations. Al-Nozha said the Australian authorities were yet to identify the perpetrator and the circumstances that led to the crime. The embassy has requested the Australian authorities to furnish it with any new developments in the case. Alamri was last seen on the evening of Oct. 6. It is believed Alamri was driving a 2000 maroon or red Toyota Avalon but police have not yet found his car. Australian police are appealing for anyone who has had contact with Alamri over the past year to contact them. Al-Nozha said efforts are under way to repatriate the student's body to the Kingdom. — SG/SPA
