Anwar Al-Saggaf Okaz/Saudi Gazette JEDDAH — The deputy head of Civil Defense in Makkah has said more than 50 truck drivers transporting inflammable material were fined for violating safety rules. These rules were agreed upon between the Civil Defense, the traffic police and Saudi Aramco safety specialists. Fines will be imposed on the companies employing the drivers who continue to break safety rules. He added that inspection patrols are not limited to expressways, but also to petrol stations within the neighborhoods, and to trucks parked on side streets. The traffic police impose curfew hours on trucks entering the cities. However, some trucks use side streets to break the curfew, but are caught by cameras and penalized. Trucks transporting inflammable material should have the motor vehicle periodically inspected, with good tires and a grounding wire to discharge static electricity. Large signs on Al-Haramain Expressway regulate trucks entry into the cities. However, trucks still crowd the streets during the peak traffic morning and afternoon hours.
