Nadda Al-Maddah Saudi Gazette MAKKAH — Capt. Ali Al-Zahrani, spokesman for Makkah Traffic Department, said Friday investigations were under way into two major accidents that took place on the Al-Haramain Expressway Thursday and on Al-Laith coastal road Wednesday. A bus carrying 26 passengers hit a sedan on Al-Laith coastal road on Wednesday. Four people were killed while two others were injured. Civil Defense teams were dispatched to the scene of the accident to help passengers stuck inside the vehicles. The dead were confirmed to be the bus driver and a family of three. On Thursday, a heavy vehicle carrying various goods overturned on the Al-Haramain Expressway and hit ten cars. Two vehicles were pinned underneath the truck and the highway was closed for several hours due to the pile-up. Al-Zahrani said the truck's driver died on the spot and he was in possession of a heavy vehicle license. Col. Ali Al-Muntashiri, spokesman for Makkah Civil Defense, said six teams were dispatched to the scene. Several victims suffered head injuries and were transported to the hospital by air ambulance. Their condition was listed as critical.
