Saudi Gazette report YANBU — The National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) has registered some violations against the Ministry of Education for the failure of a school construction project in Yanbu. A source in the commission said an engineer was commissioned to investigate and he reported that the project was contracted to a local firm to be completed within 320 days. However, only 45 percent of the project was completed by the end of the specified period, media reports said. The source added that there were no periodic supervisory reports, and the first warning to the contractor was issued four months after the end of the contract period. The NACC also feels that the concerned body in the ministry failed to implement the regulations as the decision to withdraw the project was issued 26 months after the end of the contract period. Bids for completion of the project were considered more than a year after the withdrawal of the project. The second contractor was awarded the bid one year and two months later, and was handed the site after another eight months. The NACC, the sources said, also noticed that no work was being carried out at the site by the second contractor. The anti-corruption body has asked the Ministry of Education to investigate the reasons for these violations. It has also sought identification of the officials who neglected the project resulting in a delay of six and a half years.
