NYON, Switzerland — UEFA has banned Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets for two Champions League matches after he was sent off for violent conduct in a 2-0 victory against Benfica last week. Busquets will miss Barcelona's home match against Celtic on Oct. 23 and the return in Scotland on Nov. 7. UEFA said he can appeal the disciplinary panel ruling within three days. Busquets was shown a straight red card by referee Cuneyt Cakir for an aggressive 88th-minute challenge on Benfica captain Maxi Pereira. Lesmes dies Former Real Madrid defender Rafael Lesmes, winner of five European Cup titles in the 1950s, has died in Valladolid at the age of 85, the Spanish club said Tuesday. In eight seasons with Real Madrid from 1952 to 1960 he was a teammate of Real Madrid legends Paco Gento and Alfredo di Stefano, and helped the club become the first side to win five consecutive European Cup titles, as well as four league titles. Lesmes, who had one cap for Spain, also played for Real Valladolid. — Agencies
