A group of Filipinos in Jeddah that actively provides community services to its fellow workers formed a new Toastmasters club to produce new talents in public speaking. Mar Par Jr., president of the new club called “The Council”, said the initiative is part of their planned activities under the Overseas Filipino Workers Cooperative Council (OFWCC) education program. Par said all members of the club are active officers and members of their OFWCC Group. According to him, OFWCC formed the club to develop the leadership skills of their groups' members that they can then use when performing community services. Par said: “Our group is one of the fastest growing Toastmasters clubs in the Western Region. “Prior to its creation, The Council has been trained by Toastmasters'members belonging to other different clubs for the past three months.” Par, who actively participates in other Toastmaster clubs prior to the creation of The Council, received an award for Toastmaster of the Year at the Kampi Filipino Language Toastmaster Club, among others. Par said their demo meetings have been successfully carried out under the direct supervision of Area Governor Johnnygene Padillo and the assistance of Past Division Governor DTM Joey Villanueva, Immediate Past Division Governor Ma. Teresa Villanueva and current Division Governor DTM Reggie Maga. Mentors include Daniah Adam, who was honored as the Outstanding Toastmaster of the Year for coming second in the Division Speech Contest. The following officers of The Council will have their oath taking ceremony at their next meeting for various positions: Mar Par Jr., President; Paul Arenas, Vice-President for Education; Mauricia Garcia, Vice-President for Membership; Roberto Perez, Vice-President of Public Relations; Jing Castro, Secretary; Manuel Eguia, Treasurer; Samer Asim, Seargent-at-Arms.
