Dopco Stars, Crown Steel win

JEDDAH — Dopco Stars and Crown Steel came out on top in the first week of action in the CMDA Premier Cup 2012, a T20 tournament being organized by WPCA here.
Top eight teams of Jeddah are taking part in tournament, which is being sponsored by Crown Steel Engineering, My Care & Hala, Dopco Engineers, AOT GFC and Hyundai.
The top four teams will advance to the second stage after playing each other in the round-robin format. The customary red balls are being used for the tournament. The tournament.
The first week of action saw three matches take place. The first of those saw Dopco Stars ask Zultec to bat first. Zultec skipper Anis Malik made 45 off 21 balls, Afaq contributed 41, while Javed Iqbal scored 62 of 32 balls (5 fours and a six) to lift the team to an impressive total of 186-5. Dopco Stars skipper Shahbaz took 2-24, while a wicket each went to Adnan, Shoaib Ali and Asim.
Dopco Stars, in reply, achieved the target (187) for the loss of 5 wickets.
Nadeem smashed 58 off 28 balls (7 fours and 4 sixes), Asim 50 off 26 balls and Shoaib Ali 34. Wajahat Shah and Samer took 2-31 each. The second match saw Crown Steel elect to bat first against Islamic Development Bank (IDB).
It racked up 209-8 through Jafar (41), Shafeeq (31), Aftab Khan (36) and Pervaiz (27). Shahid took 2-22, Yasser 2-43, Nadeem 2-45 and Babar bagged one wicket. In reply, IDB could score only 178-9. Its openers Khalid Butt and Ramazan scored 90 runs. Butt scored 72 runs off 32 balls (3 sixes and 10 fours) and Ramazan added 43. Aijaz Mitha took 4-23, while Anwaar had 2-20. A wicket each was picked up by Aftab Khan and Abid Naseem.
The third encounter saw Asian Advanced Plastic Factory (APF) use the track first against AOT GFC.
It scored 206-4 with Awais making 52 off 31 balls, while Khurram Karamat hit 43 off 33 as they put on 99 off 60 balls. Imran Ghani added 32 and Maqsood remained unbeaten on 43. AOT GFC started its innings promisingly with its openers in great touch as Faisal Mehmood hit 60 off 23 balls (10 fours) and Ilyas scored 28 to put on 103 for first wicket. Naeem Shah scored 25 as AOT GFC was left stranded at 184-7 after 17 overs when play was stopped due to bad light. Awais grabbed 2-13, Arshad Ch. 2-28 and Jawad 2-38.
