JEDDAH/RIYADH – Little did Abdul Elah know that celebrating the National Day would get him admitted to the ICU. The ten-year-old boy was in the back of his family car when it was hit hard from behind by a reckless young man. Abdul Elah was severely injured and rushed to the hospital as the culprit sped off. Police arrested the driver later, thanks to the efforts of some young men who chased him and forced him to stop. Passengers riding with the reckless driver ran away and police are still searching for them. Abdul Elah's father, Professor Tariq Al-Habeeb thanked the young men who helped the police nab the reckless driver. The father prayed to Allah that his son would recover and get well soon. He posted his son's picture on Twitter with the caption “This is the result of reckless drivers.” Abdul Elah was not the only victim of reckless driving. A young man was hit by a speeding car and fell over the bridge and died on the spot at Sari Street in Jeddah. The young man's car had broken down while he was driving over the bridge. He got off to check what was wrong when a speeding car hit his vehicle from behind and caused him to fall over the bridge. Two girls fell out of a ride at an amusement park at Al-Hada Road in Taif and were transported to King Abdul Aziz Specialist Hospital. The ride broke down and threw the two little girls on the ground causing moderate injuries. This also took place on the National Day. The spokesman for Taif Health Affairs Directorate said both girls were now in good condition. Police in different cities arrested groups of young men who attacked people on the streets and stores on the National Day. In Jeddah, 220 vehicles were impounded because their owners changed their colors and exterior designs. The drivers as well as the car accessory shops which did this will be fined SR2,000 each, according to the spokesman for Jeddah Traffic Administration. “Every citizen has the right to celebrate this joyful occasion but without causing harm to others,” said Jeddah Traffic Administration director. The Eastern Province has not registered any violations or accidents on the National Day which indicates that the plan designed by the EP Traffic Administration was successful in preventing accidents.
