JEDDAH – Ver Jasa and Grace Funtilon encoded another history into FEDBG files when they snatched titles after three action-packed championship games in the Filipino Expatriate Damayan Bowling Group Anniversary Bowlfest 2012 at the Bowling city here. Second to the last from the cut-off, Jasa totaled 2,965 on the regular qualifying period and survived last with 688 behind top finisher Med Ramos (782) and Carling Constantino (708) in the Class D 4-game semifinals. Jun de Dios, Nards Hassan and Rod Lofamia missed border with 676, 675 and 651. Making to the finals for Class C were Rolly Vistal, Fred Cuenca, Rudy Jamon and Joel Calapatia. Emil Payongayong, Rene Martinez, Bobby Baraquel and Edu Toledo survived in Class B, while Ding dela Rosa, Zaldy Bacero, Ric Reformado and Jun Estefano carried on for Group OA. All semifinal survivors joined direct finalists Roger Daquioag, Marcelo Manalo, Jimmy Aragones, Edris Mangoda and Richard Antonio. On the 3-game, 20-bowler race finals, Vistal alarmed rivals with 253 as Jasa, Cuenca, Reformado and Ramos produced 237, 227, 221 and 221 respectively. Following up with 216, Jasa seized top spot with 454 and defending champion Bacero stood right behind him with 442 on a 240 leap from rank 10. Reformado held on at third with 437, Vistal slid to fourth (436) and Calapatia stayed fifth (425). In the ultimate, all finalists were aiming to spark with Bacero and Jasa watching for extrication. Far down, top favorites Daquioag and Payongayong were doing well but still contentions were on the early leaders. Halfway of the game, Bacero almost leveled as Jasa opened a frame and the title defender had a turkey. But Jasa retrieved hostilities to finish 212 scratch. Such great push capitalized his handicap and claimed the 2012 ABF title on 690 total output that let Bacero take the bridesmaid position on scratch 3-game series of 654. Reserved qualifier Calapatia totaled 548 for third place, Vistal with 635 landed fourth and Reformado fifth with 631. Funtilon had her trek easier when she made 257 in opener and be widely ahead from Aileen Miralbuna, Malou Gime, May Lourdes and Malou Nidoy who respectively started with 206, 180, 173 and 156. Following up with 182, Funtilon kept top position with 459. Miralbuna stayed in contention with 399, Nidoy moved nearer with 348 while Lourdes and Gime hardly found rhythm with 341 and 321. The real conflict was then displayed by Funtilon and Miralbuna in the last game with classic trading of strikes till they finished with 236 and 231. Funtilon clinched the ABF 2012 ladies championship on 3-game series of 695 while Miralbuna cuddled first runner-up with 630. Nidoy, Gime and Lourdes ranked third, fourth and fifth respectively. In the sudden death special event, Ester Santoc topped the race with 4-game series of 797, followed by Shirley Sagmit (772) and Maricar Victorino (748).
