Fahad Al-Manaee Saudi Gazette MAKKAH — A mother and her three children perished in a fire that broke out in the Malawi district of Makkah Friday. The fire erupted on the roof of a single-story house occupied by a group of Pakistani families. The woman and her three children residing in a room on the rooftop died while 30 other occupants were rescued. The bodies were taken to King Faisal Hospital mortuary. Saleh Al-Elayani, spokesman for the Makkah Civil Defense, said highly inflammable construction material used for partitioning rooms and piles of junk furniture on the roof caused the fire to spread quickly. An investigation is under way to determine the cause of the fire. Khalaf Al-Matrafi, director of the Civil Defense, warned residents against piling furniture and other junk on rooftops and to dispose of them quickly for safety reasons.
