WASHINGTON — A chimpanzee has appeared to use sign language to hint to zoo visitors that he wants to be let out of his zoo enclosure. In a video filmed by a visitor at the Welsh Mountain Zoo, the ape can be seen pointing at a window joint and making an “open'' sign with his hands, and he also uses his fingers to make a sign that is similar to the American Sign Language meaning of the word “gate''. During the clip, the zoo visitor can be heard saying: “He wants us to lift the window up.'' It's not the first time sign language has been mentioned at the zoo as staff member Peter Dickinson has previously written about using it with the animals. — Agencies
