PATTANI — Suspected militants in Thailand's violence-prone south have opened fire at a military patrol unit, killing four soldiers and wounding two others. The soldiers were returning to their base from patrol on motorcycles in Pattani province Saturday when about 15 suspected insurgents in three pickup trucks drove by and started firing on them. Police Col. Kong-att Suwannakha said the suspected militants took four rifles from the soldiers before fleeing the scene in Mayo district. The shooting is among several attacks by suspected militants since last week. — AP
