Police say soldiers killed four attackers who opened fire when their pickup truck was stopped at a military checkpoint in Thailand's restive south. Another four were wounded, the Associated Press reported. Police officials say soldiers set up the checkpoint Sunday in Nong Chik district in Pattani province to search for attackers who had launched grenades into a military base, injuring one officer. Regional security spokesman Maj. Gen. Acra Thipparoj says the soldiers came under fire when they pulled over a pickup truck carrying nine men.
